ALCAN Day 27 Hatcher Pass, Gold Miint Trail Head

Have not had Internet at our overnight camps, will update soon. This is Saturday Aug 3rd and we are in Seward for lunch then into Homer.

August 1, 2024 Talkeetna to Gold Mint Trail head via the Hatcher Pass Rd. ~60 miles and 2+hours.

Went to check in for our flight around Denali, but were informed the the mountain was sock in; so we canceled and headed south.  This air service had 5 or 6 maybe Turbo Otters; I've only flown once on a prop Otter on one of  my Ontario fishing trips (mostly Beavers and a Beach 18). We decided to head toward Palmer, so we took the Hatcher Pass Rd. This was a 30+ mile unpaved road. The views very breathtaking  as you were driving with a 300+ cliff on side or the other and mountains above. After completing this road we pulled into our next campsite. This turnout to be a large paved parking lot with "campsites" on one side, but this campsite had the most spectacular views of any campsite we have had.

Maybe the original grass runway in Talkeetna.
If you want to climb Denali you come to Talkeetna fly to a glacier  at ~7000' , then hike ~ 3 weeks to begin your climb---good lunch!
